On the 23rd by M. Mendenhall, esq., Mr. Job Kendall, of Davidson, to Miss Nancy Burton, daughter of John Burton, of Guilford. January 11, 1842 Died: In Randolph County, recently, Mrs. Frances Staley, wife of David Staley, and daughter of Jeremy Field, deceased. Departed this life in the town of Greensborough, N. C. on the 21st December, 1841, Miss Martha Ann Adams, in the 22nd year of her age. January 18, 1842 Married: Recently in Randolph co., in Friends’ meeting, Mordecai Lamb to Hannah Chamness. Died: In this county, on the 14th inst., Susan Brittain, consort of Asa G. Brittain, and daughter of the Rev. Henry Tatum. At the residence on her son-in-law, Salathiel Stone, in Stokes county, on the 27th of Nov. last, Mrs. Agnes Close, relict of Major John Close, in the 75th year of her age. January 25, 1842 Married: On the 12th inst., in Surry County, by the Rev. James Purvis, Columbus C. Franklin, Esq., to Miss Ann A., eldest daughter of Richard Gwyn., Esq. February 1, 1842 Married: In this place on Tuesday evening last, by J. A. Mebane, Esq., Mr. Peter Thurston, to Miss Eleanor Elliott. In this county, on Tuesday evening last, mr. William W. Warren to Miss Charlotte Field. Died: In this place, last Friday night Moore Daniel, a native of Orange county, N.C. but who had been for the past eight or ten years a citizen of Greensboro. Suddenly, on the 25th inst., in the 33rd year of her age, from organic disease of the heart, Love S. Gales, wife of Weston R. Gales, Editor of the Raleigh Register. February 8, 1842 Married: In Guilford County, on Friday, the 28th ult., by the Rev. John Hinds, Mr. Saunders Flack, to Miss Susan Webb. Died: In this place about 2 o’clock yesterday morning, Cornelius Winborne, leaving a widow and several small children to feel his loss. In this county on Sunday evening last, at the residence of Samuel Mitchell, Melinda Kirr, daughter of Nathaniel Kirr deceased, age about 18 or 19 years. February 15, 1842 Died: In this place on the 12th inst., William Paisley Gilmer, eldest son of John A. and Juliana Gilmer aged 6 years and about 4 months. In Demopolis, Ala., on the 25th of January, Sally Young, wife of Levi W. Young, and daughter of Thomas Claney, of Hillsboro, N. C. Near this place, on Friday the 11th inst., William Armfield, Esq., in the 81st year of his age. February 29, 1842 Married: In this town on Tuesday evening last, by the rev. Ira T. Wyche, Mr. William Fletcher Jean, to Miss Julia Dick, daughter of Capt. Reuben Dick. Died: On the 16th inst., William Humeston, infant son of Dr. D. P. and H. L. Weir, aged 6 months and 20 days. March 1, 1842 Married: In this county Thursday evening, Feb. 24th by the Rev. E. W. Caruthers, Mr. William Conrad to Miss Julia H. Tatum, daughter of Rev. Henry Tatum. Died: On the 24th ult., after an illness of seven days, Mrs. Claudia M. Wilson, in the 24th year of her age. March 8, 1842 Married: On Thursday the 24th inst., by the Rev. John Hinds, Mr. George D. Green, to Miss Penelope Pritchet, daughter of Jeremiah Pritchet, deceased, all of Guilford County, N. C. March 15, 1842 Married: In Liberty, Missouri, on the 3rd ult., Mr. Robert G. Gilmer, formerly of this place, to Miss Caroline C. Robinson, daughter of Andrew Robinson, Esq., of Clay county, Mo. Died: In Hyde County, on the 1st, inst., Mr. I. H. Spencer, formerly of Hillsborough. Departed this life on the 28th of February, Col. Benjamin Elliott, at his residence near Cedar Falls, in the county of Randolph. March 22, 1842 Married: At Friends meeting, at Springfield, on the 11th Ira Johnson of this county to Irena Vestal, of Davidson county. In Greene county, Alabama, March 1st, Mr. D. S. Whitsett to Miss E. Huckabee. Also, the same day, in Maiengo County, Alabama, M. G. G. Huckabee to Miss M. A. E. Gamble. Died: At Springfield, in this county, on the morning of the 12th George Hayworth in the 87th year of his age. March 29, 1842 Married: In this county, on the 17th inst., by the Rev. John Lambeth, Mr. James W. Doggett to Miss Mary Lambeth, daughter of the late Joseph Lambeth, all of this county. Died: In Davidson county, March 22nd, 1842, Elizabeth Hedrick, wife of John L. Hedrick, and daughter of Benjamin Sherwood, aged 37 years and 11 days. April 5, 1842 Died: In Louisburg, Franklin County, on the 20th March, Margaret Frances, aged 21 months 21 days, only daughter of N. B. Walker. April 12, 1842 Died: In this county, on Monday the 28th March, at the residence of Mr. James Thom, Miss Eleanor K. Thom, daughter of David Thom, Esq., dec’d. April 19, 1842 Married: In this county on Thursday evening last, by the Rev. Wm. Paisley, Mr. John Huffman to Miss Mary Ann Cook, daughter of Capt. Allen Cook, of this county. April 22, 1842 Married; In this county on Tuesday evening, the 5th inst., at the residence of Thomas Edwards, by Rev. J. D. Lamsdan, Mr. Jeremiah Walker, of this town, to Miss Emily Edwards, of Chatham County. Died: In this city on Sunday night last after a sudden and severe illness, aged 52 years, Mr. John Martin, a native of Rockingham county, North Carolina. At High Rock, in Rockingham county, N. C. on Sunday morning, 17th Mrs. Nancy Brent, wife of John N. Brent. May 3, 1842 Died: Of disease of the liver, at the residence of Mr. Sampson Lanier, in Tuskegee, Macon county, Alabama, on the 14th inst., at 1 o’clock in the morning, Dudley H. Lawrence, aged 27 years. May 10, 1842 Died: In this vicinity, on Sunday morning last, Beverly Rose, infant son of William H. and Lavinia Cumming, aged 14 months and 4 days. In Orange county, on the 21st of last month, Michael Holt, aged 64 years. May 17, 1842 Died: In this place on Saturday the 14th inst., Mrs. H. I. Weir, wife of Dr. D. P. Weir In this place, on Monday evening, the 9th Euphemia Jane, infant daughter of William S. and Catherine Gilmer, aged 6 years 4 months and 12 days. In this vicinity, on Thursday morning the 12th, Mary Lavinia, infant daughter of William H. and Lavinia Cumming, aged 3 years and 3 months. May 31, 1842 Married: On Thursday evening the 19th inst., by the Rev. John Hinds, Mr. Sidney Walters to Miss Nancy Finley, all of this county. June 7, 1842 Died: In this county, on the 4th, at an advanced age, William McKnight. In this place, Saturday evening last, Henry, infant son of Washington J. and Jane McConnell. At his residence near Mocksville, on the 23rd ultimo, Thomas C. Jones, Esq., in the 52nd year of his age, leaving a widow and nine children, together with a large circle of relations and friends to mourn their irreparable loss. At Chapel Hill, on the 31st ult., Jane Wilson, daughter of the Rev. Dr. Alex Wilson, of this place. She was about 20 years of age. June 21, 1842 Married: In this county, on Thursday evening, the 16th inst., by the Rev. E. W. Caruthers, Mr. John Holt, of Orange, to Miss Sarah Jane Mebane of this county. Died: In this county on Friday the 17th inst., in the 63rd year of his age, Richard Shelton. In this place, Tuesday morning last, Emma, infant daughter of Peter and Sarah Adams. July 9, 1842 Died: In Randolph county, the 30th ultimo, Thomas Fentress, Esq. July 30, 1842 Married: In this vicinity, on Wednesday last, by the Rev. E. W. Caruthers, Mr. Adam M. Rankin, to Miss Louisa M. Kerr, daughter of the late Nathaniel Kerr. Died: In this county, on the evening of the 27th inst., Mary Lane, wife of Isaac Lane, near 60 years of age. At his residence, in the county of Rockingham, on the 6th inst., after an illness of several months, which he bore with great fortitude, Mr. John Wall, Sen., in the 56th year of his age. At her residence in Rockingham county, Miss Angelina Linder, in the 24th year of her age. August 13, 1842 Married: On the 3rd, inst., by the Rev. John Hinds, Mr. John Roberson to Miss Symtha Fulton, all of this county. Died: In this place on Sunday morning last, James R. Hinton, a Student of the Caldwell Institute. In Rowan county on the 1st inst., Mary Jane, daughter of the Rev. James D. Hall, aged about five years. August 20, 1842 Married: On Tuesday evening, 16th inst., at the residence of Mr. Jeremiah Pearson, in this county, by Rev. J. D. Lumsden, Mr. Auslem Rayle to Miss Elizabeth Bevil. August 27, 1842 Died: In this county, on the 15th of this month, in the 64th year of his age, James Denny, leaving a wife and nine children to mourn the loss of an affectionate husband and kind father. On the 16th of this month, David Wolfington, Jun. Late of the State of Mississippi. In this county, on the night of the 25th inst., Washington Wiley. September 3, 1842 Died: In this place on the 2nd Sept., 1842, Mr. Elizabeth K. Horney, consort of John C. Horney, Esq., of Jamestown, N. C., and daughter of William Adams, dec’d, in the 34th year of her age leaving behind her a husband and two children. In this county on the 10th ult., Jeremiah Reynolds, about 65 year of age. In this county on the 29th of August, in the 16th year of her age, Miss Sarah Moore, daughter of the widow Sarah Moore, relict of Isaiah Moore, dec’d. In this place on Tuesday morning, the 30th of August, George K., son of Rev. John A. Gretter, aged about 6 years. September 10, 1842 Died: In this county on the 2nd of this month of congestive fever, Reuel Swain, aged 68 years, 2 months, and 13 days. On the 4th inst., of congestive fever, after an illness of 3 days, John Chambers, youngest son of Watson and Malinda Wharton aged 4 years and 22 days. September 24, 1842 Died: At Albright’s hotel, in this town, on the night of the 16th, G. K. Furor, of the state of Maine. In this place, Sunday the 18th, Diana Linthicum, wife of John W. Linthicum, in the 44th year of her age. In this place on Friday the 23rd, instant, at 5 ˝ o’clock, A. M. Frances Amy, the youngest daughter of the Rev. Alexander and Mary Wilson in the 5th year of her age. In Stokes county on the 21st of August, 1842, in the 29th year of her age, Mrs. Eliza Pearson, consort of John G. Pearson, and daughter of John B. and Mary Hampton. October 1, 1842 Married: In Raleigh, the 20th Sept., Mr. Robert G. Terrell to Miss Mordacy B., third daughter of Daniel Murray, Esq. Near Salisbury, on the 8th, Dr. John Lynch of Cheraw, S. C., to Miss Eliza Ellen, daughter of Col. R. Macnamura. In Louisburg, Franklin county, the 1st, by the Rev. Wm. H. Barnes, Rev. William Closs to Miss Louisa P. Arendell. In Randolph county, on the 22nd, by Lewis M. Leach, Esq., Mr. Samuel P. Ball to Miss Eliza Ryan. In Randolph county, the 27th, by H. Dorsett, Esq., Mr. Alexander Ward to Miss Francis Deor. Died: In this county, Friday the 23rd ult., Eliza, daughter of Burton and Agnes White. Saturday, the 24th, Agnes, wife of Burton White. Sunday, the 25th Joseph H. Dennis, Also Sunday evening, Robert Hall. Tuesday, 27th, Jabez Couch. Also Tuesday night, Rebecca Gorrell, an aged lady widow of the late Robert Gorrell. Also, on Tuesday 27th Isaac White. In Randolph county, on the 6th Mary, wife of Abi Robbins, aged 30. At this place on Tuesday the 27th, L. B. Knowles. Also, in this place, Thursday last, Rebecca Kirkman, an aged lady. At Welch’s Mills, Cabarrus county, the morning of the 23rd, ult., Dr. Alfred W. Caldwell, son of Dr. David and Susan Caldwell, of this town, in the 39th year of his age. In this county, the 28th Joel Sullivan, aged about 76 years. October 8, 1842 Died: In this town, Sunday morning Oct. 2, Washington Tyre. Also, Alpheus, Leroy, son of Robert T. Woodburn, aged 2 years 7 months and 16 days. On Thursday 6th, Duncan C. Tyre. On the 4th, Cummins M., infant son of Thomas F. and Ruhama Beattie. Recently in Lexington, N. C. Pete Conrad. At the residence of her son, Mesback Pinkston, in Davidson county, on the 5th of Sept., Mrs. Susannah Pinkston, aged 72 years. In Orange county, Sept. 27, Col. William Shaw, aged about 42 years. In Fayetteville, recently, Neill Johnson, aged about 48 years. In Salisbury, Miss Elizabeth Thompson, age 19 years. In Mecklenburg county, 14th ult., the Rev. John Williamson, pastor of Hopewell and Paw Creek churches. At his residence near Danville, Va., Sept. 20th, the Rev. John Kerr, one of the oldest and most distinguished ministers of the Baptist church in Virginia. October 15, 1842 Married: In this town last Thursday evening, by the Rev. H. T. Weatherly, Mr. Harris Kirkman to Miss Susan Couch. In Davidson county, Tuesday evening the 4th inst., by the Rev. Thales McDonald, Mr. William Overman, to Miss Mary E. Slater. In Wake county, on the 27th ult., by the Rev. Mr. Alford, the Rev. William M. Jordan, of the North Carolina conference, to Miss Eliza Ann Page, daughter of Anderson Page, Esq. At Chapel Hill, 20th Sept, Mr. John J. Roberts, Professor of Modern Literature in the University of N. C. to Mrs. Louisa Cobia. Died: In this place on Sunday evening 9th inst., of consumption, Mary Scott, wife of David Scott. In Rowan county, on the 1st inst., in the 68th year of her age, Mrs. Elenora Brown, relict of Michael Brown. In Lexington 19th ult., Samuel R. Brevard in the 27th year of his age. Died: In this town, 1 o’clock this morning, Edward Hendricks, in the middle age of life. November 5, 1842 Married: In this place, Thursday evening last, by the Rev. J. D.
