Mrs. Green was an esteemed member of the first and only Cumberland Presbyterian church in the State of North Carolina, from the 9th of November, 1839 to the time of her exit from this world. She was formerly for many years an orderly and highly respectable member of the Haw River congregation of the Presbyterian church, she professed to find peace through the pardoning blood of the despised Nazarene, under the preaching of the Rev. James McGready, now deceased, originally of this county, who under God became the chief instrument in the glorious and ever memorable revival of religion of 1800, which swept like mighty waters o'er the great valley of the Mississippi and rolled it's healing tides back to the mountains and the sea coast. It is not my object in writing this obituary to eulogize the dead, but to give a simple and unvarnished statement of facts: suffice it to say therefore that the lamented subject of this notice was esteemed by all who knew her as a kind and benevolent benefactress of the needy and distressed, and also as a pious and consistent Christian, consequently she died as she had lived, a child of God, an heir of heaven. She has left children and grand children and a numerous circle of friends to mourn the irreparable loss, but their loss is her eternal gain, for in her death Heaven has gained another trophy, and she may say, with the redeemed above - Now Safely moored my perils o’er I’ll sing first in night’s diadem Forever and forever more The Star, the Star of Bethlehem. Communicated Additional Comments: Margaret's tombstone indicates she actually died on July 16, 1840. She was born on Dec. 16, 1769. Guilford county marriage records indicate that Edward Green and Margrit Warnock obtained their marraige bond on Dec. 12, 1790.
