Tombstone Inscriptions for Colonel & Mrs. Daniel Gillespie buried in Buffalo Presbyterian Churchyard Greensboro, Guilford Co., NC IN MEMORY OF COL. DANIEL GILLESPIE who was born in Frederick County Virginia Oct. 13th 1743 The son of pious and worthy parents Endowed by nature with a mind above the ordinary grade with a strong love of Liberty with a great decision of Character tho without the advantages of a liberal Education. He will nevertheless be ranked by a grateful posterity among that noble band of Patriots whose skill and valor in the field of battle during our struggle for National Independence and whose Wisdom and Integrity in the Council chamber where the principles were discussed and the platform constructed of the happiest government on earth were the pride the ornament and the security of their Country Having thro a long life, discharged the duties of Husband, Father, and Friend of soldier, Statesman and Citizen with uncommon fidelity.
