In this place on Thursday last, Captain Zachaus Swaim, after a 
lingering and painful illness of nearly two years.

At Salem in Stokes county, on the 3rd inst., Miss Eliza Bagie, daughter
of Mr. Charles Bagie, of that place.

In Rockingham county, on the 4th inst., Terry Collins, aged 52
years-she had no family, was a native of Maryland, and a member of the
Methodist Church. Few have ever manifested less concern for the
fleeting trifles of this world than she did, her life was pious and
irreproachable-her death was happy and triumphant. It was truly
affecting to see with what supernatural courage she raised her
fast-failing hands in victory over the king of terrors, while, with
eyes uplifted to heaven, her almost expiring tongue declared the praise
of God! The beholders could not restrain their tears-and, it is
believed that every one secretly wished to come, at last, to so
glorious an end.

Also on the same day, in this county, Mr. Donnell Denny, aged 20 years.

On the 30th ultimo, Mr. William Denny, an old and respectable citizen
of this county, after a lingering illness, which he bore with Christian
fortitude. Mr. D. was and had been for many years a member of the
Presbyterian Church.

At the dwelling house of Jno. Wiley, 8 miles southeast of
Greensborough, September the 27th, a man, who said his name was Arthur
Reaves, that he was a native of Franklin county, a Shoemaker by trade,
and that he had a wife and 3 children in Orange county.

At Enfield, in Halifax county on the 17th September last Levi H.
M'Lean, Esq., son of Capt. Marshall M'Lean of this county. He had been
married but ten days previous to his death. He died in the triumphant
hope of enjoying a blessed eternity.

Col. Allen M'Lean, a patriot of the revolution, and the father of one
Minister to England.

In this county, on Monday, the 1st inst., Mrs. Sarah Stafford, aged
about 70 years.

In Raleigh, on Sunday, the 31st ult., Mrs. Hinton, wife of Ransom
Hinton.

In Petersburg, Va., on the 23rd ult., Dr. Richard Field, in the 63rd 
year of this age. He was an accomplished gentleman, distinguished
physician and a learned man.

On the 28th ult., at his residence in Rowan county, Mr. Daniel Wood.

In Randolph County, on Friday 12th inst., Col. Hugh Walker. Society has
sustained a serious loss in the death of this amiable man. He has been
for the past two years, a member of the legislature of this State, and
was, we understand, previous to his death, a candidate for re-election.

At Wilmington, on the 29th ult., Mrs. Teresa Jacobs, relict of the late
Benjamin Jacobs, aged 90.

Died, in the vicinity of Fayetteville, on the 20ult., Mr. William
Ballard, leaving a wife and two children.

In the town of Fayetteville, on the 24, ult., Sophia Sarah, infant
daughter of B. P. Mallet, Esq., aged 5 months.

In this county, on the 28ult., Mr. James Job, aged about 60.

In Rockingham county, on the 8th ult., Carter Stubbenfield, Esq., in
the 60th year of his age.

At Salisbury, on the 12th ult., after a protracted illness of several
years, Miss Sally Dickey, in the 51st year of her age.

Died, in Fayetteville, on Friday the 26th ult., after a short illness
Henry Shaw, eldest son of John Shaw, Esq., of Duplin county.

Also in Lower Fayetteville, on the same day, Dr. Goodorum Davis aged
32-a graduate with eminent distinction of the University of North
Carolina, and gentleman of rare acquirements and talents.

Died, at his residence in Stokes County, last week Mr. Christian H.
Reede, aged 61 years.

In Roxbury, Massachusetts, on the 8, ult., Major General Dearborn, in 
the 79th year of his age. He was an honest and virtuous citizen, and a
galena and distinguished officer of the Revolution.

In this County on Thursday last, Mrs. Rachel Adams, aged 89 years.

Cumberland County.

In Rowan on the 20th inst., Mrs. Mary Robeson, relict of John Robeson
dec'd aged 65.

At Milledgeville, Geo. On the 6th inst., Oliver M. Curtis, Esq.,
Attorney at Law, formerly of Fayetteville, but a native of
Massachusetts.

In Loudon county, Va., a few days since, Tommy Tomson, a black man,
aged 130 years. He was born and lived in Va., and retained his mental
and physical faculties to a few days previous to his decease.

Died, in Sumner county, Tennessee, on the 25th Aug., Mr. Elisha M. 
Gray, after a painful illness of about 8 weeks. He was a native of 
Randolph county in this State, and received his education, principally
in this place. He removed, some years since, to Tennessee; where he has
since been employed as a teacher. He was a young man whose correct
moral deportment had secured him the esteem of all who knew him.

lingering illness of several months.

Died, in this county, on Sunday morning, 10, inst., Mrs. Lydia
Clemmons, wife of James Clemmons, in the 51, year of her age. They were
married in 1799, and have lived together ever since, in the most
cordial and uninterrupted love, harmony and happiness. She had two
children who are yet sojourners in this vale of tears.

protracted illness of 9 months, Mary H. Peay. She was 27, years of age.
She was a perfect model of female excellence; and formed in nature's 
noblest mould. She was universally beloved while living, and
universally lamented now dead.

David Scott, aged about mos. It appeared to be in good health 15
