Very suddenly in Davidson county, on the 18th ult., Mrs. Dobson, consort of Dr. John Dobson. ~~~April 5, 1836 In Wake Forest, 17th ult. Nancy Underwood, an exemplary member of the Baptist church. In Halifax county, 17th Feb. Elizabeth K. Burton, wife of Maj. Thomas B. Burton. At Green Pond, Richmond county, 17th Feb. of the small pox, Alexander Smith, a highly respectable citizen, leaving a wife and several small children. Also in the same county, 19th Feb. Alexander Patterson, a member of the Presbyterian church, a good neighbor, and a useful citizen. In Marion, Alabama, 14th ult., George Martin Palmer, formerly of Hillsboro, N. C. ~~~April 27, 1836 At the residence of Hiram T. Sloan, in Iredell county, on Thursday morning, the 21st inst., Ex-Governor Hutchius G. Burton, after a very short illness. In Surry county, near Jonesville, on the 2nd inst., quite suddenly, Joel H. Burch. Also on the 30th of January last, Samuel Callaway, aged 82, a soldier of the revolution. He had lived in that county upwards of 60 years. ~~~May 25, 1836 In Iredell county, on the 7th last month, Anna Clasby, widow of Charles Clasby, aged 95 years and 7 months. ~~~November 9, 1836 In this place, on Saturday last, of consumption, Robert Moderwell, aged about 60, for several years a respectable merchant in this place. ~~~April 20, 1838 In the vicinity of Germanton, Stokes county, on the 3rd inst., Ephraim Banner, Sr., in the 85 year of his age. ~~~January 25, 1839 In this place, about half after 11 o'clock last night, Mr. Wm. Smith, leaving an affectionate wife to mourn her loss. ~~~February 18, 1839 Died in this place on the 28th ult., Mrs. Thankful Ann Hyatt, in the 19th year of her age, and in the confident and joyful hope of a blissful immortality. Departed this life, the 16th ult., after a lingering illness of nearly seven months, Mr. Daniel Closs. The deceased was a native of Ireland; emigrated to this country at a early period of life; was married to Miss Lucy Wals, of Philadelphia. He died in the 75th year of his age. ~~~February 27, 1839 Died lately, in Rockingham county, Martha Wade, consort of Col. Wade, and daughter of Mr. Alexander Martin. In this county, on the 26th inst., David McAdoo, an aged and highly respectable citizen. In Davidson county, on Thursday, the 14th instant, mr. Casper. Bringle, aged 88 years. Mr. B. was the oldest man in the county, and, while living universally beloved by his neighbors-He was the father of 8 children, and when he died had 58 grandchildren, and 59 great-grandchildren. ~~~March 6, 1839 Died in this county, on the 2nd inst., Francis Bell, aged about 60 years. ~~~March 20, 1839 Died at the residence of Col. James Denny, in this county, of pneumonia, on the 18th inst., Mrs. Nancy Donnell, relict of William Donnell, in the 83rd year of her age. In Buchanan county, Missouri, on Sunday the 20th ult., Mr. John S. Donnell, merchant of this county. ~~~April 3, 1839 Died in Randolph county, suddenly (dropped instantaneously lifeless) on the 16th ult., Mrs. Mary Hill, consort of Samuel Hill. The deceased as a lady of uncommon intelligence and a pious Member of the Society of Friends. ~~~April 10, 1839 Died on the 11th ult, at the residence of her brother-in-law, about 3 miles from Hillsborough, Illinois Eleanor McLean, daughter of Mr. Joseph McLean, aged 34 years. In this place on Monday morning last, Mr. William Wallace, an aged and respectable citizen. ~~~April 6, 1839 Died recently, in this county, Albert Whitehart, of bleeding at the nose. ~~~May 7, 1839 Died in Randolph county, on the 30th ult., Mr. Reuben Lamb, after a short illness of two or three days only. ~~~June 18, 1839 Died in this place, on Wednesday last, Nancy Gilbreath. At the Indian Springs in Georgia, Dr. James Patrick, of Macon, Ga., a native of Rockingham county, in this State. ~~~July 2, 1839 Died in this place on Saturday last, Mary Rebecca, aged about 9 years, daughter of the Rev. Mr. Blake of Raleigh. ~~~July 16, 1839 Died in Washington City, on the 26th ult., in the 79th year of her age, after a painful illness of several months duration, Mrs. Winfred Gales, consort of Joseph Gales, Esq., of this city, (late of North Carolina). ~~~August 6, 1839 Died at the residence of John Perdue, a few miles from this place, on Tuesday the 30th ult., Samuel Mitchel, Jr. The deceased had lingered long under consumption. In Randolph county, on the 1st ult., John W. L. Rush, aged about 6 years. ~~~August 27, 1839 Died in this place, on the 20th inst., James M. Woodburn, in the 22 year of his age. ~~~October 22, 1839 Died at Roxboro, Person county, on the 5th instant, Duncan Rose, Esq., aged nearly 70 years. ~~~October 29, 1839 Died at his residence in this county on the 24th inst., Thomas Green, a native of Ireland. He left his native county in his 17th year; served several campaigns in the Revolutionary War, was a kind parent, a good neighbor, and a highly respectable citizen. He died in his 84th year. On Monday evening last, aged twenty-seven years, Mr. Leroy Rice, of this place. ~~~November 5, 1839 On the 30th last month, of a lingering illness, at the residence of Michael Holt., Esq., in Orange county, his consort Mrs. Rachel Holt, in the sixty second year of her aged. In the death of this excellent woman society has sustained a loss which cannot be easily repaired. ~~~November 12, 1839 Died in this county, on Friday, the 8th inst, William Dicks, a respected citizen and member of the society of Friends-The deceased was in his usual health until the morning previous to his death, when he was found to be speechless in his bed, in which state he remained till he died. In Randolph county, on Sunday morning last, Esther Lamb, consort of Mordecai Lamb. In this county recently, a daughter of Mr. Geo. Hendricks, very suddenly. In this county, on the 10th inst., Laura Ann E. Brittain, daughter of Asa G. Brittain, granddaughter to Rev. Henry Tatum-aged 10 years 3 months and 12 days. Miss Melinda Stanton, of Randolph county, N. C. fell dead from her chair on the 11th instant. She was sixteen years of age, and apparently in good health. ~~~November 19, 1839 Died in this town, on Sunday morning, after a lingering illness, John Carroll. ~~~November 26, 1839 Died on the 6th inst., on Pee Dee river, 75 miles (by land) below S. C. David B. Mendenhall, son of Nathan Mendenhall, of this county. Deceased was a steam engineer; had served an apprenticeship with Reeder & Sons, Baltimore, and had only been in business in S. C. about a month when he was attacked with bilious congestive fever which proved fatal. ~~~December 10, 1839 Died in this place on the 27th, Nov., Martha Elizabeth, infant daughter of G. C. and Catharine Townsend--aged 7 weeks and 2 days. In this place on the 7th inst., after a severe and protracted attack of the croup, Daniel W. Gantley, infant son of James and Sarah B. Sloan-aged about 3 years. In Cabarrus county, on the 5th inst., of bilious pneumonia, Martha Townsend, consort of Mr. Aaron Townsend-aged 66 years. The deceased had been for 48 years an exemplary member of the Presbyterian church. ~~~December 31, 1839 Died in this town on the 24th inst., Mrs. Eleanor Clark at an advanced age. In this place on the 26th inst., Levi Donnell. ~~~January 26, 1841 Died in this vicinity, on Friday night last, Robert McKnight, Sen., an aged and highly respected citizen. ~~~February 2, 1841 Died on the morning of the 28th inst., Saleme Harmon, consort of Mr. A. Harmon, of this place, aged 42 years. Died suddenly, in Stokes county, on the 23rd ult., Thomas, Carr, Sen. ~~~March 9, 1841 Died in this county, the 23rd of February last, Mary Campbell, widow of the late Samuel Campbell. In this county, on Wednesday the 3rd inst., Elizabeth Dorsey, formerly of Wilmington. ~~~March 16, 1841 In Asheborough, on Wednesday morning 3rd inst., Rachel Swaim, wife of Benjamin Swaim, editor of the Southern Citizen, leaving four helpless children-one only a few days old. In Randolph county, on the 24th ult., Thomas Hancock, Esq. ~~~March 23, 1841 Died on the eleventh inst., at High Rock, Rockingham, N. C. of consumption, Dr. Thomas S. Brent, in the 23rd year of his age. ~~~March 30, 1841 Departed this life on the 11th January, at his residence in Marshall county, Miss., after a short illness, Harrison Jones, Sen., in the 84th year of his age. He was a native of Cumberland county, Virginia, and one of the Virginia Volunteers at the Battle of Guilford, North Carolina, in which he lost his right leg. ~~~April 6, 1841 Died, at the residence of his father, in Orange county, on Saturday the 27th ult., after an illness of some months, of consumption, Mr. Thomas Walton Bain, son of Nathaniel Bain, aged about 26 years. The deceased was a printer by profession. ~~~April 13, 1841 Died in this vicinity, on the morning of the 9th, Jacob Albright, infant son of Jacob and Sarah Albright. In Randolph county on Friday the 9th inst., the Rev. Christopher Vickrey, aged upwards of one hundred years. The deceased was born in Virginia, near the town of Winchester, and removed with his parents to the province of North Carolina, when quite a youth. His father was one of the principal sufferers in the ill-judged and disastrous, though patriotic and daring revolt of the "Regulators" in 1770-an event which involved a great number of families in all this portion of the then colony in unexampled suffering for a series of years thereafter. ~~~May 18, 1841 Died in Guilford county, on Thursday the 13th inst., of consumption, Elizabeth Tharpe, wife of Noah Tharpe, about the 34th year of her age. ~~~June 8, 1841 Died in this county, on Tuesday the 1st inst., Henry Hendricks, in the 78th year of his age. On last Saturday, in this place, Charles Bland, after an illness of two weeks. On last Saturday, Absalom H., infant son of Hosea Holder. ~~~June 15, 1841 Died in this vicinity, on Thursday the 10th, Mary, wife of Mr. John F. Donnell. ~~~June 22, 1841 Died in this vicinity, on Monday the 14th inst., Sarah Jane, daughter of Christopher and Sarah Hiatt. The deceased was in her 18th year. At his residence in Orange county on Friday, 11th inst., Henry Brannock, Sr., in the 84th year of his age. ~~~July 6, 1841 Died suddenly in Pasquotank County, at the residence of Dr. Richard H. Ramsay, on the 19th ult., Dr. William H. Williams of Raleigh. ~~~July 13, 1841 Died in Ashborough, on Thursday, the 8th inst., Marilla Winborne, widow of the late David Winborne, of Guilford, in the 72nd year of age. ~~~August 3, 1841 Died at Salem, Indiana, on the 23rd of June, in the 41st year of her age, Anna Starbuck, consort of Benjamin Starbuck, and daughter of William Gardner, of Stokes, N. Carolina At Kernersville, Stokes county, on the morning of the 21st ult., Adolphus Jefferson, infant son of Andrew J. Folger, aged 8 months. In this county on Thursday the 29th ult., George Franklin, infant son of George and Keziah Swain, in the 6th year of his age. In this town, on the 26th ult., James Daniel Webster, infant son of Andrew Weatherly. Also on the 28th ult., an infant son of David Scott. ~~~August 17, 1841 In this place, on Sunday morning last Catherine S. infant daughter of Joseph A. and Martha McLean. Also, on the 9th inst., Margaret Eliza, daughter of Robert T. and Zillah Woodburn, in the 4th year of her age. In this county, on the 3rd inst., Jos. Rankin, sen., at an advance age. At the White Sulphur Springs, Va., on Friday the 16th inst., John Dunn, (of the firm Dunn, Mellwaine, & Browley, Petersburg, Va.) in the 37th year of his age. ~~~August 24, 1841 In this place, on Sunday morning last, Latham Donnell, Also on the 17th inst., an infant daughter of Henry Boshamer. ~~~August 31, 1841 In this place, on Saturday morning last, Jane S. McLean, wife of David McLean, and daughter of John Paisley. In Rockingham County, N. C. on the 11th inst., Thomas Searcy, aged 77 years. In this place on Tuesday morning the 24th inst., of congestive fever, Miss Jane C. Johnston, daughter of Dr. William Johnston, of Lincoln county, N. C. in the 18th year of her age. ~~~September 14, 1841 At the residence of his son, in Caswell county, on Friday the 26th of August, John Richmond, sen., in the 90th year of his age. He was a soldier of the Revolution and through life a firm and loyal patriot. In this county recently, at an advanced age, Mrs. Mebane, wife of William Mebane. In this county recently, Isaac Murphy. In Deep River settlement, on Sunday the 3rd inst., at an advanced age, William Lindsay, after a lingering illness. In Davidson, on the morning of 6th instant, Mr. Zebulon Hunt-aged about fifty-five years. On the 5th inst., in Davidson county, Jacob Brummell, in the 78th year of his age. In the vicinity of this place, on Tuesday evening, the 5th inst., John Mitchell, in the 69th year of his age. In the county of Rockingham, N. At the residence of Dr. Hawkins, of Warren, William B. Meares, Esq., of Wilmington of congestive fever, on the 10th or 11th inst.
