Slane, died at Duke Hospital yesterday of heart disease. He was 67. Founder and owner of Slane Hosiery Mills. Prominent in Southern hosiery manufacturing for nearly 40 years. He operated a glass business in Statesville until 1914 with his late brother O.W. Slane. A former director of the National Association of Hosiery Manufacturers. In 1936 was a Republican candidate for Congress, losing to William M. Umstead. Survivors - Widow: [Not named] A daughter: Mrs. Thomas A. Finch of High Point Two sons: John C. and WIllis H., Jr. of High Point A brother: Fred Slane of Statesville Four sisters: Mrs. George Stephens of Statesville, Mrs. Frank Wineskie and Mrs. Fred Whitescarver of High Point and Mrs. Emmett Boylan of Philippi, W. Va.
