NO INQUEST IN CRASH NEEDED: Two lives lost in Highway Collision An inquest was unnecessary in the automobile-truck collision near Guilford County sanatorium Monday night, resulting in two fatalities, County Coroner Wallace G. Freemon held today following completion of his investigation of the accident. No Charge was preferred against the truck driver. William Vestle Ruth, 50, of 115 Taylor Street, High Point, and P.M. Sharp, 37, of 408 Howard Street, this city, lost their lives in the accident, while Charles A. Gordon, of High Point, driver of a truck belonging to L. H. Bottoms Trucking Company, suffered possible broken ribs and lesser injuries. The accident occurred on the Greensboro-High Point Road about 9 p.m. Monday when the coupe in which Ruth and Sharp were riding collided head on with the truck as the automobile reportedly attempted to pass another machine. Ruth was instantly killed and Sharp died shortly afterward in a High Point hospital. Sharp was operator of S and S Trucking Company and had recently moved to Howard Street from 2701 Camden Road. He was a native of Rockingham County, son of Mr. and Mrs. J.M. Sharp, Greensboro, Route 3, and had been a resident of Greensboro about 20 years. He was member of Asheboro Street Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, the former Miss Louise Jones; two daughters, Misses Louise and Patsy Jones and a son P.M. Sharp, Jr., all of the home; his parents; five brothers, George Sharp, Greensboro, Route 1, Jacob Sharp, Winston-Salem; Nathan Sharp, Charlotte; Ben Sharp, Ossipee and William Sharp, Greensboro, Route 3, and seven sisters, Mrs. L. C. Parrish, Mrs. Joe Harrell, Mrs. J.C. Brown, Mrs. Johnny Sizemore and Mrs. Nellie Donavant, all of Greensboro, Mrs. Felix Spaugh, Winston-Salem, and Miss Margaret Sharp, Greensboro, Route 3. Ruth is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary Ruth; two daughters, Mrs. Vera Siegal, Lincolnton and Mrs. Grace Eulis, Liberty; and six sons, George and John D. Ruth, both of the United States Army, Carol Ruth, Alamance County, Joseph Ruth, Carthage and Wilbert and W.V. Ruth, Jr., both of High Point. Funeral arrangements were incomplete early this afternoon, but it was indicated that the Ruth rites will be held sometime Thursday at Bethlehem Church near Liberty. The truck driver was quoted as expressing the opinion that Ruth was driving the wrecked coupe, and investigation of highway patrolmen tended to bear out the truck driver's statement that the coupe was on the wrong side of the highway at the time of the crash. Both machines were said to have been heavily damaged in the collision, the trailer of the truck being knocked loose form its coupling. The coupe was reported to have been practically demolished. ___________________________________________________________________ Copyright.
