State of North-Carolina,

We Adam Apple & John Geringer the undersigned, do hereby acknowledge ourselves 
indebted to his Excellency Gabriel Holmes, Esquire, Governor, &c. and his 
successors in office, in the sum of five hundred pounds; but to be void on 
condition that there is no lawful cause to obstruct a marriage between Adam 
Apple and Polly Cobb for whom a license now issues.  

In Witness whereof, we have hereunto set our hands and seals this 12th day of 
November A.D. 1822
