They moved from NC in about 1800, with the James McCready movement. John White McDowell is Joseph McDowell II's grandson, and his father was Joseph McDowell III. John White McDowell was born 26 Nov 1814 and died at the age of 56 on 24 Oct 1870. He and his father were Cumberland Presbyterian ministers. His wife, Eleanor Clark McDowell was the daughter of Thomas Clark II, who also lived in Guilford County, NC in the 1700s. She was born 15 Dec 1814 and died 19 Nov 1895. These portraits appear to be from a painting, and they appear to be in their forties, so the painting [from a photograph?] is circa the 1860s.
