NC Will Book A, pages 147-48 Will of JOHN HUNTER 29 Aug 1777 - Probate Feb 1778 In the name of God Amen, I John Hunter of the provence of North Carolina & County of Guilford being very sick & weak but in my proper sences do make this my Last Will & Testament in manner and form following Imprimis, I Bequeath my Soul to God who gave it & my Body to be Buried at the discretion of my Executors in hopes of a Joyfull resurrection through the merits of our Blessed Lord & Saviour Jesus Christ, and for what worldly Estate it hath pleased God to bestow on me I order it as followeth-- Item, I order my Executors hereafter named to pay & discharge all my just debts & that they sell & dispose of whatever they think proper & best of my Estate to satisfy my said debts--- Item, I lend to my son Edward Hunter during his natural life the following Negroes to Witt, Charles, Juba, Jupiter, Moll, Filly, Alse, Darcas & Fann & the ____ of all the Stock and Household furniture during his & his wife's natural lifetime and then to be Divided so that if there are any more children that their Estate be made equal to the rest of the children-- Item, I Give & Bequeath to John & Alexander Hunter, sons of Edward Hunter the Tract of Land I now live on & the Mill Tract with the two old Negroes Sisor and Fann to them & their heirs forever, only my Daughters Allay Tate & Elizabeth Walker to have their corn ground for free at the said Mill--- Item I Give & Bequeath to my Daughter Allay Tate the Following Negroes to Witt, Cate & Jimmy they and their Increase to her & her heirs, forever--- Item--I lend to my daughter Elizabeth Walker the following Negroes to Witt--Tom, Rose, Cisley, Isham, & ______...during her natural life & to which of her children she thinks proper, I give the said Negroes & their increase to her & her heirs forever--- Item I Give to John Hunter Walker, the son of John & Elizabeth Walker, one Negroe wench Nane, that I formerly lent his Mother & her increase to him & his Heirs forever--- Item I Give to David Walker, Joel Walker & William Walker, the sons of John & Elizabeth Walker the three Negroe children that the said John Walker Senr, has now in possession the children of Nane, to be Equally divided between them they & their increase to them & their Heirs forever--- Item I lend to my daughter Sarah May the following Negroes to Witt, Lucy, Nathan, Suky which they have now in possession & to which of her children she thinks proper I give the said & their Increase to them & their Heirs forever--- Item I Lend to my sister Jane Martin one Negroe girl Pheby during her natural life--- Item I give to my Grandchildren Robert, John, Elizabeth & Frances LEE, two mulatto girls Lucy & Judy that I lent to their Mother & their Increase to be Equally Divided between them also a debt due me from their Father for the sum of Fifty Eight pounds, nine shillings & ten pence Virginia Currency, to them & their heirs forever--- Item, Give Alexander Martin one Negroe Boy Ben, to him & his Heirs forever Item I desire my Executors to make a Deed for that tract of land I recovered of Mr. Battlesby to whom Colo. Geo. Covington thinks proper... Item I Give to my son Edward Hunters children all the residue & Remainder my Estate Real & Personal that is not mentioned in this my Will to them & their Heirs forever--- Lastly I appoint Alexander Martin, James Martin, James Hunter & Edward Hunter, Executors of this my Last Will & Testament revoking all former Wills by me made In Wittness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal this Twenty ninth day of August, One thousand Seven Hundred & seventy seven-- Signed & Sealed published & delivered in the presence of these witnesses John Hunter Geo.
