WILL OF ROBERT RUSSELL, Guilford County, NC March 12, 1804 page 390 File #0317 In the name of God amen - The twelfth day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and four. I Robert Russell of Guilford County in North Carolina of perfect mind and memory thanks be given unto God, therfor calling unto mind the morality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all man once to die, I do make and ordain this my last will and testament, that is to say principally and first of all, I give and recommend my soul unto the hands of God that gave it and for my body I recommend it to the earth to be buried in a Christian like and decent manner, at the discretion of my Executors nothing doubting but at the great resurrection I shall receive the same again by the mighty forever of God, and us touching such worldly estate shair (share) with it that Blessed God to bless me with in this life I give demise dispose of the same after paying and discharging all my just debts and funeral charges in the follow manner and forms. Iprinis- I give and bequeath unto Susanna Russell my dearly beloved wife the hole and sole of my estate, to buy and sell as she sees proper herself while she remains a widow and if she should marry then the whole estate is to be put to auction, and she get the third part of the hole estate. Item- and I do give my negrow woman Lrieey (Crissey) and her son Jeffery their freedom from all person claiming or atempting to claim them forever. And I do hereby will unto John Donaldson the sum of fifty dollars, and I do will unto Robert Russell and Alexander Russell sons of Robert Russell deceast the sum of fifty dollars each. And the remainder I will to be equally divided amongst my brother William's son, William Russell and my brother David's son Thomas Russell and Robert Washington Russell. I Robert Russell do hereby appoint and constitute my trust friends Robert Thompson and John Gullett with my trusty and well beloved wife Susannah Russell my Executors of this my last will and testament, and I hereby do disallow, revoke and disannul all and every to her former testaments, wills, legacies, and Execution by me in any ways before this time named, willed and bequeathed ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my last will and testament. She is purported to be the daughter of William Rudduck, however, William Rudduck, Quaker, only mentions his wife Mary and his daughter Jane in his will. Mt Slaves emancipated: "It appearing to the court that Robert Russell that by his last Will and Testament directed his Executors to precure(?) him two of his slaves to wit: Lucy and Jeffery to liberate and set free and Robert Thompson one of the Exr. of the last will of said Robert Russell having Brought into court the said Lucy and Jeffery and prayed the court to set them free agreeable to direction of the testator and it appearing to the court that the said direction and request of the Testator were (??) of the said Lucy and Jeffery, it is ordered & directed by the court that the said Judy and Jeffery be emansipated and sett free and that they be hereof be known by the name of Lucy and Jeffery Russell."
