Mary Stokes, Dower property, widow of Daniel Stokes, Guilford County, NC MARY STOKES, Dower 63 State of North Carolina} Guilford County} In obedience to the annexed writ, I James W. Doak, Sheriff of the county aforesaid on the 8th day of October 1827 attended by Thomas Thompson, John Tomlinson, Thomas McNeely, James Maxwell, William R. Killingsworth, Ralph S. Simpson, Leaven Gladson, Jeremiah Prichett, William King, George Fulton, William Maxwell, Henry Gant, Free holders unconnected with Mary Stokes, widow of Daniel Stokes deceased or the heirs devises of said Daniel Stokes by consanguinity or affinity and entirely disinterested; by me, duly summoned same in proper person to a certain plantation where of the said Daniel Stokes, deceased, died, seized and possessed mentioned in the annexed writ lying on the Waters of Haw River in the county aforesaid Containing Two hundred acres more or less, and the Freeholders aforesaid being duly Sworn and required to allott and Set off to the said Mary Stokes one third part of the plantation aforesaid included and comprise within the following limits and bounds to wit, Begining at a post Oak runing then East 108 poles to a white oak thence North 11 poles to a Black oak bush, thence West 40 poles to a Stake, thence South 15 poles to a pile of Stones, then West 65 poles to a black oak, thence South 35 poles to a Small post oak bush, then West 5 poles to a Black Jack and post Oak thence South 60 poles to the begining, the dwelling house or mansion of the Said Daniel Stokes deceased on which he most regularly dwell next before his death, and all the offices, out houses, building and improvements to thereunto Belonging or in anywise appertaining which being done, I the said Sheriff and Freeholders aforesaid put the said Mary Stokes in possession of the premises.
