             SHERIFF'S NOTICE
   In pursuance of an order of the Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions of 
Cumberland County, obtained at March Term A.D. 1856, I shall, on the 12th day 
of May next, proceed to sell at public sale,, at the Court House door, in the 
Town of Fayetteville, a certain Negro man, calling himself JACOB, who has been 
confined in the Common Jail of said county, as a runaway slave, for 12 months 
proceeding said Term, duly advertised according to law, and who says that he 
is the property of HENRY MITCHELL, of Halifax County, N. C. 
   Said Negro is about 36 or 40 years of age, of dark complexion, weighs about 
180 poounds, is five feet eight inches high, and had on, when committed a 
velvet cap, a gray sack coat, and blue pantaloons.
