Carter, Sheriff to John Justiss (Regarding an execution Thomas Curlin obatained against William Justiss November Court 1812) This Indenture made this 20 day of May 1813 between W.W. Carter Sheriff of Halifax County in the State of North Carolina of the one part and John Justiss of the County in State aforesaid of the other part witnesseth that for and in consideration of the sum of 56 Dollars to him the said Sheriff in hand paid at or before the sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged he the said Wilson W. Carter Sheriff hath by virtue of an execution which Thomas Curlin obtained in the County Court of Halifax last November Term against William Justiss for the sum of 28 pounds Currency cost of said ??? included as appears to us on record and the said Sheriff did levy the execution upon one undivided Tract of Land Containing 29 acres be the same more or less. Which the said William Justiss has an Interest in lying and being in Halifax County and bounded as follow (to Wit.) beginnning at a Black Jack a Corner of Eatons & Sledges line formerly Williams & rooks thence along Sledges line a southerly course and also bounded by Hedges line and Ann? Willis's? line thence by William E. Webbs line to a Spanish oak on the Ferry road thence down the various courses of said road to the old Ferry road thence the old road to Coley's line thence along his line to a Black Jack thence along said line to Robert and Samuel Justisses line thence along their line to Rebecca Justisses line thence her line to a white oak in Eatons side line Thence along William Eatons said line to the first station, which said title Interest and part of said land which joins the lands of Willis Sledge & others and being the Dower lands which was allotted to the mother of the said William he the said Wilson W. Carter Sheriff did expose to sale agreeable to law to the highest bidder for ready Money to satisfy the aforesaid execution & cost included is required by the said precept & the said John Justiss being the last and highest bidder the said right Title and Interest which the said William had in and to the said Dower Tract of Land Containing 29 acres was cried out at 28 pounds currency in favor of the said John Justiss and by the power and authority which the laws of the State foresd hath vested in him the said W.W. Carter shff hath conveyed and by these presents do convey unto the said John Justiss his heirs and assigns all the right title Interest or claim which the aforesaid William Justiss in any wise had in or to the aforesaid Dower land containing 29 acres more or less - at the time of levying on and exposing the said premises To have and to hold the said land rights titles and Intgerests with all the appertensance is thereunto belonging or in anywise appertaining to the only proper use and behoof of him the said John Justiss his heirs and assigns forever.
