HALIFAX COUNTY, NC REGISTER OF DEEDS DEED BOOK 25, PAGE 364 20 OCT 1818 / MAY CT. 1821 Thomas Curlin to Richard Bailey Deed This indenture made the 20th of October in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred & Eighteen Between Thomas Curlin of the county of Halifax & State of North Carolina of the one part & Richard Bailey of said County & State of the other part. Whereas the above named Thomas Curlin is justly to the president & directors of the branch bank of Newbern at Halifax in the sum of three hundred & fifty dollars and Willis Shelton & Aquilla Morris both of said County of Halifax are security thereto and the said Thomas Curlin being desirous to secure & save harmless the said Willis Shelton & Aquilla Morris for & on account of the said securityship?. Now this Indenture as aforesaid, Witnesseth that the said Thomas Curlin for & in consideration of the sum of Three hundred & fifty Dollars to him in hand paid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged as also for & in consideration of the purposes aforesaid hath bargained sold & conveyed and by these presents doth bargain, sell & convey unto the said Richard Bailey his heirs & assigns forever my tract of land whereupon I now live containing Three hundred acres more or less with all the appurtenances and belongings thereto Intrust? to & for the following uses & purposes that is to say to & for the use & purpose of securing & saving harmless the said Willis Shelton & Aquilla Morris is aforesaid and the said Richard Bailey on his first promise & agree to execute said Trust by Exposing the above mentioned property to Public sale after giving Ten days previous notice of said sale & out of the proceeds thereof to pay & satisfy to the president & directors of the said branch bank of New Bern at Halifax the full amount of the before mentioned Bond with Interest Costs & Charges of? the same or to pay the same to the said Willis Shelton & Aquilla Morris in case they shall have taken up & discharged of said bond & the balance if any to be paid to the said Thomas Curlin his heirs or assigns when thereto required.
