Pendry To all people to whom these presents shall come I Mary Read do send greeting. Know ye that I the said Mary Read of Halifax County in the province of North Carolina, widow, for and in consideration of the love and good will and affection which I have and do bear towards my loving son Moses Read Pendry of the county and province aforesaid planter, have given and granted and by these presents do freely give and grant and deliver unto the said Moses Read Pendry his heirs, Exr. or Adm. one Negro boy named Thomas to have and to hold the said Negro to the said Moses Read Pendry for his heirs, exrx. or adm. From henceforth to his and their only proper use and uses as their own proper goods and chattels absolutely without any manner of condition. In witness whereas I have hereunto put my hand and seal this 17th day of August 1769.
