Mary Read to Lydia Read To all people to whom these presents shall come, I Mary Read do send greeting. Know ye that I the said Mary Read of Halifax County and Province of North Carolina, widow, for in the consideration of the love and good will and affection which I do bear towards my loving daughter Lydia Read of the county and province aforesaid have given and granted and by these presents to fully give and grant and deliver unto the said Lydia Read her heirs, Exrx. or Adm. one Negro girl named Gillie to have and to hold the said Negro to her the said Lydia Read her heirs exrx. or Adm. from henceforth to her and this own proper use and uses as their own proper goods and chattels absolutely without any manner of condition.
