He enlisted in Halifax County, N. C., April 25, 1781, under Captain Robert Raiford, Lieutenant Dudley, Major Armstrong and Colonel Dickson. He served in the battle of Eutaw Springs where two mess mates, John McCoy and John Russell, were killed. Twenty-nine men in the regiment were killed.
