A KILLING
   A melancholy transaction occurred near Halifax a few days ago. COL. THOMAS 
H. ALSTON and MR. TARLTON JOHNSON, having had some previous differences were 
riding together, when the former snapped a pistol at the latter, and repeating 
the same several times without effect, MR. JOHNSON was induced to defend 
himself, and according shot COL. ALSTON died upon the spot.
