Dec. 9, 1802 Wilmington Gazette DIED, at his seat near Halifax, on Saturday, the 27th inst., COL. SAMUEL B. ASHE, in the 55th year of his age. COL. ASHE was a native of North Carolina, and embarked early in life, as an officer of the American Revolutionary War; where he served with reputation to himself and his Country, until the close of it. He has since been repeatedly called on by his fellow citizens as their Representative in our State Legislature and in Congress; and has ever been distinguished, as well, for the urbanity of his manners, as for the integrity and patriotism of his conduct. He was a real Republican and the estimation in which he was held by his Country will readily appear by the vote of the General Assembly of the 20th instant, through which he was elected Chief Magistrate of this State for the ensuing year by a large majority of the two Houses. He is, however, no more, and has left a wife and a son, as well as many friends to lament his loss.
