She was the widow of James Daniel Banty, daughter of the late William and Evaline Griffin Johnson of this county, and member of the Clarksbury Methodist Church, in which she served for many years. Surviving her are three sons, Richard Lee Banty of Capron, Maynard J. Banty of Boykins, and William H. Banty of Wellville, Nottoway County; two stepsons, Vernon Banty of Emporia and Jimmy Banty of Roanoke Rapids; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Ossie S. Smith and Mrs. Minnie Carter, both of Portsmouth; three sisters, Mrs. Charles Smith of Roanoke Rapids, Mrs. Emma Smith of Boykins, and Mrs. Cora Taylor of Courtland; a brother, Everett Johnson of Sedley; 34 grandchildren; and 38 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon at three o’clock at the Banty residence near Boykins by Rev. W.L. Sturtevant, followed by interment in Beechwood Cemetery. Active pallbearers were W.B. Ivy, John Boothe, Dallas Johnson, Robert Mazelle, Walter Johnson, Herman Smith, Henry Newton, and R.S.
