He was a native of Scotland Neck, N.C., the son of the late Joshua and Mrs. Julia Hyman Bell. Prior to the first World War, of which he was a veteran, he resided in Capron, where he was in the employ of the late J.E. Drewry. He was the brother of W.S. Bell, who also formerly resided in Capron. Mr. Bell had lived for the past 20 years in Portsmouth, for a part of which time he was in the coal and wood business in Port Norfolk. He was a member of Broad Street Methodist Church. Surviving him are his brother, W.S. Bell of Portsmouth; three sisters, Mrs. R.L. Powell of Woodland, N.C., Mrs. W.H. Jenkins of Lewiston, N.C., and Mrs. R.P. Daughtrey of Roanoke Rapids, N.C., and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mr. Bell were conducted at 11:30 Saturday morning from the Snelling Funeral Home in Portsmouth, followed by interment in Olive Branch Cemetery.
