He was a native of Scotland Neck, N.C., and had resided in Capron prior to moving to Portsmouth about 20 years ago. During his Capron residence he was in the lumber business, being employed for several years by the late W.H. Vincent. The son of the late Joshua and Mrs. Julia Bell, he was a member of Broad Street Methodist Church. Besides his wife he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Margaret Bell Forti of Arlington and Mrs. Julia Beale Godfrey of Macon, Ga.; five sons, Sheppard C. Bell of Franklin, David H. Bell of Capron, Earl and Wesley Bell of Portsmouth, and William Bell of Washington, D.C.; four grandchildren; and three sisters, Mrs. R.P. Daughtrey of Roanoke Rapids, N.C., Mrs. W.H. Jenkins of Lewiston, N.C., and Mrs. R.L. Powell of Woodland, N.C. A brother, Joshua Claudius Bell, died in the Veterans Facility at Kecoughtan on January 26 of this year. Funeral services for Mr. Bell were conducted at the Snelling Funeral Home in Portsmouth at 2 o’clock Saturday afternoon, followed by burial in Olive Branch Cemetery.
