A Fatal Quarrel

Weldon, NC, November 30
In a drunken riot at Hobgood, in this county, Saturday night, Reuben Smith,
colored, killed Lawrence Howard, also colored. Howard was cut with a knife and
died almost instantly. Coroner Branch went down yesterday and held an inquest,
which resulted in the arrest and jailing of Smith, who will be tried for murder
at the Halifax criminal court which convenes next Monday.
