C. Aug. 1, 1860 The Standard of Raleigh, N. C. Aug. 1, 1860 DIED At his residence in the town of Weldon on Friday evening the 27th instant, DR. W. L. LONG, aged thirty seven years years, three months, and twenty-three days. To those who knew DR. LONG it would be superfluous to say that he was a gentleman of warm and generous impulses, high toned principles and scrupulous integrity. What he regarded as right he would give the full weight of his influence, and what he believed to be wrong he scorned and denounced. True to all the instincts and attributes of a gentleman he was noted for his nice and discriminating sense of honor, and his devotion to its laws. Two years ago, much against his inclination, he was brought out by his party as a candidate for the House of Commons, and was elected by the largest votes that has ever been given for any representative in the county. This flattering testimonial of the esteem in which he was held by his fellow citizens of the County show at once the character of the man and the attachment of his friends. He was renominated by acclamation this year, but declined. This sad intelligence will occasion deep regret among the members of the last House of Commons with whom DR. LONG served, and between many of whom and himself a warm attachment sprung up, and has never abated; but will be received too with painful feelings by a large circle of his friends scattered from Texas, perhaps to Maine (for he graduated at Princeton and Philadelphia, and in each place made many Northern friends), but no where will it fall so heavily as it did upon this community in midst of which he has resided ever since he commenced the practice of medicine. Every heart sorrows, and every eye yields affection's tribute -- a tear. He leaves a widow, (daughter of the late HON. HUTCHINS G. BURTON) and five children, and into the sacred circle of domestic grief friendship pours a swelling tide of deepest sympathy. Requiescat in pace.
