The Semi-Weekly Messenger (Wilmington NC) 22 March 1898
A special to the Raleigh News and Observer says that in Halifax county last
Saturday Charles D Mills took the horse from the plow, put his 6-year-old son
upon his back, and started for dinner. The horse ran away, throwing the child.
The little boy's clothes caught in the hook of the traces and he was dragged to
death. The horse ran to the house with the bleeding remains.
