EVA HOPKINS POPE

   Funeral services were held in the chapel of the Branch Funeral Home, Enfield, 
N.C., at 3:30 o’clock Wednesday afternoon, May 18, for Miss Eva H. Pope, who 
died early Tuesday morning in the Woodard-Herring Hospital, Wilson, N.C., after 
a lengthy illness. The rites were conducted by Rev. J. Felix Arnold of Enfield 
and Rev. Ira D. Hudgins, pastor of the Franklin Baptist Church, of which Miss 
Pope was a member. “Miss Eva,” as she was familiarly known by her friends, 
taught the Ladies Bible class in her church  ---.

   Interment was in the Baptist Cemetery, Scotland Neck, N.C.  Pallbearers were 
her nephews, Robert Beale of Raleigh, N.C.,  John Allen Daughtrey of Franklin, 
and Dr. R.C. Pope, Dick Pope, Sam Pope and L.J. Wilson, all of Durham, N.C.

   Miss Pope a native of Halifax County, N.C., was born at Crowell’s, near 
Enfield, in 1886. She was a daughter of the late Dr. Joseph Richard Pope and 
Mrs. Addie Futrell Pope of Scotland Neck.

   A graduate of the Indiana (Pa.) Norman School, Miss Pope taught in Winston-
Salem, N.C., and then for two years in the Enfield Graded School. From Enfield 
she went to Pittsburgh, Pa.; where she taught art and music until her retirement 
about four years ago. She was highly respected and loved by everyone who knew 
her.

   Survivors include three sisters, Mrs. Ruth Pope Turner of Norfolk, Mrs. 
J.O.H. Daughtrey of Franklin, and Mrs. Anna Mary Wilson of Wilmington, N.C.; and 
one brother, R. Hunter Pope of Enfield, N.C.
