COUNCIL THOMAS PORTER

   Council Thomas Porter, 49 years of age, died July 30 at Henderson, N.C. He 
is survived by his father, W.J. Porter of Newsoms; and four half brothers, 
Amos, B.F., and Harvey Porter of Newsoms and W.J. Porter, Jr., of Roanoke 
Rapids, N.C. 

   Services were held at the grave in Newsoms Cemetery Friday, August 2, with 
Rev. John W. Morrison officiating. Active pallbearers were Roy Bradshaw, Irvin 
Drake, Lewis Walton, Hugh Gray, L.D. Story and H.A. Crowder.
