He fought a courageous battle with bladder cancer for three years. Wayne was a gentle spirit, full of honesty, love, and grace. He never met a stranger and everyone was his friend. No matter your status in life, Wayne saw everyone through the same lens. If anyone would ask Wayne how are you doing, he would say with that big smile of his, “Having a ball”. He was born on May 25, 1941 in Roanoke Rapids, NC to the late Russell W. Rose and Myrtis Shearin Rose. Wayne graduated from Maury High School in 1962 and worked at Norfolk Naval Shipyard as a Sheet Metal Mechanic/Work Leader in Shop 17. He retired after 35 years of service. Wayne was a devoted husband, Dad, Papa, Uncle and friend. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years Ellen Taylor Rose. He leaves a son to cherish his memory Terry Wayne Rose (Heather); grandson Tyler Wayne Rose; step grandson Stone Casey; step granddaughter Brittany Swigert; his sister Gladys R. Jenkins; brother Glenwood Rose (Jean); step great grandson Leo Hanke; sister-in-law Frances R. Taylor; brothers-in-law Lee R. Taylor and Irvin W. Taylor, Jr.; along with beloved nieces, great nephews and many close lifelong friends; and his furry friend, Utah. Wayne is predeceased by a step grandson Justin Marzigliano. His family would like to thank Dr. Mark Fleming and Dr. Michael Williams for their dedicated services given during his illness. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Black Creek Baptist Church, the American Cancer Society, or The American Diabetes Association. The Funeral Service will be held at 1 PM Saturday, November 3, 2018 in the sanctuary of Black Creek Baptist Church, 34163 Vicksville Rd., Franklin, VA 23851, with Pastor Buddy Hoggard and Pastor Mike Barlow officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends in the church one hour prior to the service.
