She was a native of Como, N.C., a daughter of the late William E. Taylor and Mrs. Amanda Cobb Taylor, and had made her home in Franklin for more than 50 years. Especially active and worth-while in the work of her church, Mrs. Williams had been the teacher of the King’s Servants Bible Class for 25 years until her health waned a few years ago. She was President of the Woman’s Missionary Society of that church for several years, and for eight years was Associational Superintendent of the Woman’s Missionary Union of the Blackwater Association. Within the long history of the local church, few women indeed have made a greater contribution to its progress and missionary endeavors than Mrs. Williams. Mrs. Williams is survived by two sons, Wharton Williams of Franklin and Frank Camp Williams of Roanoke Rapids, N.C.; by four daughters, Mrs. Judson Norfleet of Newberry, Fla., Mrs. B.B. Alsop of Washington, Mrs. R.J. Tucker and Miss Gertrude Williams, both of this town; one brother, John C. Taylor; two sisters, Mrs. W.M. Howell and Miss Mary E. Taylor, all of Como; 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services, attended by an unusually large assemblage of friends, were held from the residence Sunday afternoon at 5 o’clock, conducted by her pastor, Rev. R.D. Stephenson, and the Rev. Gordon L. Price of Roanoke Rapids, N.C. The pallbearers were: Wharton and Frank Williams, Billy Bryant Williams, Billy Tucker, Frank Williams, Jr., R.J. Tucker, B.B. Alsop and John A. Williams. Burial was made in the family plot in Poplar Spring Cemetery.
