Halifax County, NC - Will - William Bryant-1762 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ In the name of God amen I William Bryant of Halifax County in the Province of North Carolina being sick & weak of body but in perfect mind and memory thanks be to Almighty God for it therefore calling to mind the mortality of the bodies do constitute and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form following viz: first and principally I recommend my soul into the hands of Almighty God who gave it and my body to the earth to be decently buried according to the discretion of my exor. herein after mentioned. Imprimis. my will is that all my just debts and funeral charges be paid out of my estate. Item, I give and bequeath to my son Jesse Bryant all my wearing clothes after my decease. Item I give and bequeath unto my son William Bryant my house land & plantation & still where I now dwell and also my land called crooked white oak containing 200 acres to him and his heirs. Item I lend unto my well beloved wife Jean Bryant during her widowhood or life the above mentioned plantation and all my goods and chattels both within doors and without doors and at her marriage or death this estate to be equally divided between Jesse Briant Penelopey Bryant Salley Bryant Catharine Bryant and Will Bryant Junr. and Jesse Andrews and Jesse Bryant whome I appointed to be my lawful Exors of this my last will and testament hereby disallowing and making nul and void all other and former wills heretofore made by me hereby ratifying and confirming this to be my last will and testament in testimoney whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 13th day of March in the year of our Lord 1762. Wm Hill Andrews Penelope Bryant Thomas Weatherbee (his mark) Halifax, June Court 1762 This will was exhibited in open court on oath by the exor and duly proved by the oath of William Hill Andrews one of the subscribing witnesses in the sd will named and on his oath did say he saw Penelope Bryant and Thomas Weathersbee the other subscribing witnesses in the sd will named sign the said will as witnesses whereupon Jesse Bryant one of the Exors in the sd will named was duly qualifyed by taking the oath by law declared. ordered the sd will be recorded test Jrs.
