Halifax County, NC - Will of David Crawley, 1773 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Will of David Crawley Halifax Co NC In the Name of God Amen this twenty-six day of October one thousand seven hundred and seventy three, I David Crawley of the County of Halifax being sick and. weak in body but of sound mind and. memory thanks be to God. for the same but knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die do make and ordain this my last will and Testament in manner and form following - that is to say first, I give my soul to God Who gave it and my body I leave to be buried in a Christian like manner by my Executors hereafter named and as to what worldly Estate it has pleased God to endow me with I dispose of in manner and form following (to wit) Imprimis I give and bequeath to my son Daniel Crawley the plantation whereon he now lives with all the land on the North East side of Martins Swamp and on both sides of Princes Branch be the same more or less also two negros to wit, Jack and Bob to him and the heirs of his body Lawfully begotten for ever Item I give and bequeath to my daughter Betty Hall two negros named Lett and her child Chloe which Negroes she has in her possession to her and her heirs forever. Item I give and bequeath to my son David Crawley to him and his heirs for ever the plantation whereon I now live together with all the lands that I now possess on the south and southwest side of the Marsh Swamp, also three Negroes named Trece, Jany and Tom, and two cows and. calves but if my son David Crawley dies under the age of twenty one years or before he marries then I give the whole of this legacy to my daughter Sally Crawley to her and. her heirs for ever. Item I give and bequeath to my daughter Sally Crawley provided she live to the age of twenty one years or till she marries two Negros named Frank and Venus and their increase, one feather bed and furniture and two cows and calves to her and the heirs of her body legally begotten for ever, but if my daughter Sally dies under the age of twenty one years or before she marries then I give the whole of this legacy to my son David Crawley to him and his heirs for ever. Item I give and. bequeath to Airriss Jones, son of Lucy Jones, provided he lives to the age of twenty one years or till he marries all the land that I now possess in the fork between Martin's Swamp and the Marsh Swamp, two cows and calves and two sows and pigs to him and his heirs for ever. My will and. desire is that Lucy Jones have a right to the land given in this legacy during her life or widowhood, but if Airriss Jones dies under the age of twenty one years or before he marries then I give the whole of this legacy after the death or marriage of Lucy Jones to John Crawley Jones to him and his heirs for ever. Item I give and. bequeath to Penny Jones, daughter of Lucy Jones provided she lives to the age of twenty one years or till she marries one Negro girl named Jany to her and her heirs for ever but if she dies under the age of twenty one years or before she marries then I give the said Negros to be equally divided between Airriss Jones and John Crawley Jones to them and their heirs for ever. Item I give and bequeath to John Crawley Jones when he shall come to the age of twenty one years or when Lucy Jones shall marry or die one Negro fellow named Will to him and his heirs for ever but if he dies under the age of twenty one years then I give the said negro Will to Airress Jones to him and his heirs for ever. Item I lend. to Lucy Jones the use of one Negro fellow named Will until John Crawley Jones come to the age of twenty one years or until she marries or dies. I also lend her the use of all my household furniture one horse called __________ and all of my stock of cattle and hogs after the above legacies are paid and that she take out as much of the said estate as will build a framed house on Airress Jones land twelve feet by sixteen and that she raise her children and give them schooling out of this legacy and if any be remaining when she marries or dies then I give it to be equally divided between Airress Jones, Penny Jones, and John Crawley Jones to them and. their heirs for ever. My will and desire is that my Negro fellow Sam one still cap, and worm, one desk, one gun and. all my-horses not heretofore given away to sold. at public sale giving six months credit and. the money arising therefrom after my debts are paid if any remain I give to be equally divided between Airress Jones, Penny Jones, and John Crawley Jones to them and their heirs for ever. I do hereby constitute and. appoint William Edmunds and. Jesse Hammons whole and. sole Executors of this my last will and. Testament utterly revoking and disannuling all former wills by me made.
