Halifax County, NC - Wills - Jesse Read, 1820 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Probate Record of Jesse READ" July 12, 1818, probated August court 1820. Halifax County, North Carolina, Page 634, In the name of God Amen. I Jesse Read of Halifax County and State of North Carolina being weak in body but sound in mind and memory do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form following viz.: First I desire that all my just debts may be paid and in order thereto for my executor hereafter named to proceed in selling my property to the best advantage at public or private sale as he may think best and to collect the money due on notes and my desires is that he may be paid for his trouble and if anything remains I give it to my son Stephen READ. I do hereby appoint my son Rhesa READ whole and sole executor of this my last will and testament. In witness whereof I have here unto set my hand and seal this 12th day of July 1818. Signed Sealed & acknowledged /s/ Jesse READ (seal) by the within testor as his last will & testament. Halifax County, Aug. 8, 1820 Then this will of Jesse READ was exhibited for probate and it being proven on oath by M. H. Vestway & William Pritchard. It was accordingly admitted to be recorded.
