Devised August 22, 1764 Probated November Court, 1771. In the Name of God Amen, the twenty second Day of August in the Year of our Lord one thousand seven Hundred and sixty four I Susanna Reed of Halifax County being well in Health and in my Perfect Memory mind and sense & blessed be God for it and therefore Calling to mind the Mortality of my Body and knowing that it is appointed for all Persons toDie do make and Ordain this my last will and Testament that is to Say & Principally and first of all I recommend My soul into the hands of God that Gave it and my body I recommend it to the Earth to be buried in a Christian like manner and decent at the Discretion of my Executors after named nothing doubting but at the General Resurrection I shall receive the same again by the Mighty Power of God and as touching such things as God has been pleased to bless me with in this life of my Worldly Estate, I Give, Divide, and Dispose of the same in the following manner and form - And First, I desire all my lawful Debts to be paid. Item to my son Arthur West I give Eight Shillings proc[lamation] money. Item to my daughter Mourning Vaughn I Give Eight shillings proc[lamation money]. Item to my son William West I Give Eight Shillings proclamation money. Item to my Son Robert West & his Heirs Eight Shillings Proc[lamation] money. Item to my daughter Katherine Reed I give and bequeath Eighty acres of Land Including the Plantation where I now live, it being the Land which was Left to me and my heirs for ever by my first husband, to Wit. Henry West, which land and premises I Give and bequeath to my Daughter aforenamed and her Heirs and Assigns forever, & all of everything Else that I am Possessed with both within Doors & without to be her Property forever. I also Constitute and appoint my Daughter Cathern Reed & my trusty friend Charles Daniel my only sole Executors of this my last will and Testament and Do hereby utterly Disallow, Revoke, and Disannul all and ever other Testaments wills and Legacies and Executors by me over and before named Willed and Bequeathed ratifying and Confirming this and no Other to be my Last will and Testament. Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hands and seal the Day and Year above Written in presence of Ame Daniel Edmund Daniel Susanna (x) Reed Thomas Daniel Halifax County November Court, 1771. Then this will was Exhibited in Open Court by the Executrix Catherine Reed and Duly proved by the Oath of Ame Daniell, a subscribing Witness thereto who on her Oath Did say that she saw the Testator Susanna Reed sign seal publish and Declare the same to be her last will and testament & she together with Edmund Daniel & Thomas Daniel the Other Witnesses, subscribed severally their Respective Names as Witnesses thereto in the Presence of the Testator and at her Request whereupon the Executrix afore mentioned was Duly qualified & on motion Ordered to be Recorded.
