I Joseph Wheeless of Halifax County in the State of North Carolina, Being thro’ the abundent Mercy & Goodness of God, tho weak in Body, yet of a sound and perfect understanding and Memory, Do constitute this my last Will & Testament, and desire it to be receiv’d by all as such. Imprimus. I most humbly bequeath my Soul to God my Maker, beseeching his most Gracious acceptance of it, thro the all sufficient Merit and Mediation of my most Compassionate Redeemer, Jesus Christ, who gave himself to be an Atonement for my Sins, and is able to save to the utmost all that comes to him, seeing he ever liveth to make Intercession for them, and who I trust will not Reject me a returning penitent Sinner when I come to him for Mercy. In this hope & Confidence, I render up my Soul with comfort, humbly Beseeching the most blessed & Glorious Trinity), One God most holy, most merciful, and Gracious, to prepare me for the time of my Dissolution. And then to take me to himself, into that peace & rest, and incomparable felicity which he has prepared for those that Love & fear his Holy Name. Amen. Blessed be God. prim `I give my body to the earth from whence it was taken, in full assurance of its Resurrection from thence at the last Day, as for my Burial I desire it may be decent without pomp or state at the discretion of my Dear Wife, and my Executrix hereafter named, and after my lawful and just Debts are paid off: I give & bequeath as follows: Item I give and Bequeath to my daughter Christian Bruce One pound specie, to her & her heirs for ever. Item I give and Bequeath to my Son Hardy Wheeles One pound specie to him & his heir for ever. Item I give & bequeath to my son Sion Wheeless one pound Specie to him and his heirs forever. I lend to my beloved Wife Molley Wheeless all my real & personal Estate During her natural Life, or Widowhood, and after my widow’s Death or marriage, I give & Bequeath all my Personal & Real Estate to my Beloved Children begotten by Molley Wheeless, to them, their Heirs or Assigns forever – In Witness whereof, I have hereunto set my Hand and Seal the fourteenth day of November in the Year of our lord 1786.
