Harnett County, NC - Ellwood Morris & Lewis Pipkin, Agreement, 1859 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Septr 10th 1859 - Memorandum of an Agreement this day made between the Managers of the Cape Fear & Deep River works by Ellwood Morris their Engineer, and Lewis Pipkin of Harnett Co, NC for the delivery of timber upon said Pipkins landing on the nest Bank of Cape Fear River, near Big Island Dam, and convenient to be placed in the water by men with cant-hooks Said Pipkin to deliver 20 M board measure on or before October 1st, 35 M during October, and 25 M during November in all 75 M at six dollars & three quarters per M payable monthly in cash at the usual time of payment on the works Said timber to be all of the Long leafed Yellow Pine, no stick of 12 inches to them less than 10 inches heart at the small end, and the lance for smaller timber No timber to be less than 10 inches square, and of that but a limited quantity per ties The sizes of the timber to run from 10 inches square and of that but a limited quantity per ties The quantity of the timber delivered under this agreement to be at least equal to the lately purchased by said Managers from Sam'l O. Pipkin & run laying at Jones's and Silver Run docks The measurement to be Wilmington measurement and the whole subject to the inspection & acceptance or rejection of the Engineer of the Managers.
