From The Weekly Standard of Raleigh, N. C. 15 May, 1860 HARNETT COUNTY -- A letter from Harnett County May 7th says: "We have formed a volunteer company in the county of near 100 men. They met at Summerville today to elect officers. I think, without a doubt, that Col. K. Murchison will command the Company." THE HARNETT LIGHT INFANTRY To the Editors of the Observer: This Company of Volunteers organized on the 7th instance at Summerville, and tendered its services to the Governor. The Company was addressed in appropriate manner by NEILL MCKAY, ESQ. and COL. J. A. SPEARS. It is now in camp awaiting orders. The company consists of 100 men. --KENNETH MURCHISON, Captain; K.M. MCNEILL, 1ST Lieutenant; R.B. SMITH, 2nd Lieutenant; SAMUEL D. PIPKIN, 3rd Lieutenant. Abundant provision has been made by the citizens for the subsistence of volunteers while in camp. A subscription is in circulation for this object, and for the full equipment of all who may desire to enlist in the service of the State -- the complete success of which, we are sure, we will be able to report next week, as every precinct will have ample opportunity on Monday next (the day of Election) to evince its loyalty to the South and appreciaton of our patriotic volunteers.
