Johnson, roadmaster for the Atlantic Coast Line here, tells us that his uncle, Mr. J.W. Popham, of Bunn's Level, Harnett county, probably has the oldest goose in this country. He had a big flock of geese when Sherman's army was on its raid through North Carolina and the bummers got all but five of them. One of the five is still living and up to a recent date has been quite spry, although it has recently become blind in one eye. Mr. Popham says he had the goose a good while before the invaders passed by and it is certain that the goose is at least 40 years old. She is a great pet and when she hears her name called, will come in out of the field at any time.
