   McKAY ELECTED MODERATOR OF SYNOD
   The Synod of North Carolina commenced in session at the Presbyterian Church 
in Fayetteville on Wednesday evening last. The REV. E. W. CARUTHERS, Moderator 
of the  last Synod preached the opening sermon and took the chiar. The REV. 
NEILL McKAY of Harnett County was then elected Moderator. The attendance of 
ministers is large, and the Synod, we understand, will probably remain in 
session until.
