He stuck a pine torch which he had with him in a crevice of the crib and crawled under. He was almost on the 'possum when he discovered that the building was on fire, and he made a hasty retreat. The dog and 'possum refused to come out and both were burned to death. Mr. McNeill's loss in corn, etc., was considerable, but he says that is nothing compared to loss of his dog, "the finest 'possumer in all the county."
