In later years, cattle have been turned loose to roam at will through the cemetery which has caused severe and irreparable damage to the remaining markers. There are many graves marked only by fieldstones or uninscribed slabs and many for which all markers have completely disappeared. The markers which remain have been trampled and broken. The fences which originally enclosed family plots have been torn down by the cattle and the markers trampled. There is no public access to this cemetery. We gained access by crossing a fence from a neighboring farm. Anyone who attempts to do this should be very wary of dogs and bulls. This cemetery is located on Jonathan's Creek, on the right, approximately 1 mile below the Utah Mountain turnoff. It is not visible from the road. It is inside a pasture owned by the Boyd family. I am including the survey we did in 2001 along with a survey published by Phyllis C. Whitman in "A Lot of Bunkum" in 1982. The deterioration during the 19 years between the two surveys shows how quickly this cemetery is becoming lost forever. The cemetery contains the grave of Revolutionary War soldier David Howell. His grave and the graves of his wives are still identifiable. In 1982 there were 16 graves with readable markers. In March od 2001, there were 13 graves with markers with some degree of legibility. At best estimate, this cemetery contains at least 150 graves. No person is ever truly dead until the last person forgets to remember them.
