HAYWOOD COUNTY, NC - DEEDS - James McKee, Sheriff versus William Mitchell ----¤¤¤¤---- Haywood County Deed Book C, p. 16, 1829 (Sheriff of Haywood County, NC versus William Mitchell: "This indenture made the 30th day of December in the Year of Our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty nine, between James McKee, Esquire, High Sheriff of the County of Haywood, and State of North Carolina on the one part and Felix Axley of the County of Haywood and State of North Carolina on the other part. Whereas by virtue of an order of sale issuing from the Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions against William Mitchell for the sum of seven dollars and twenty five cents which said sum was recovered by Felix Axley of the said William Mitchell in covenant and liable as our record may appear and whereas the said order of sale was directed and delivered to the said James McKee, High Sheriff aforesaid commanding him that of the goods and chattels, land and tenants of the said William Mitchell he should cause to be made the aforesaid sum of seven dollars and twenty five cents to satisfy the said order of sale with the costs thereon and the said James McKee, Sheriff as aforesaid in pursuance and by virtue of his office and the aforesaid execution, did seize and take into his hands and custody (no goods nor chattels to be found) a certain piece or parcel of land situated, lying and being in said County of Haywood bounded as follows, "On the waters of Hominy Creek, beginning on a white oak running west one hundred and fifty poles to a Spanish Oak, thence west fifty four poles to a rock in a hollow, thence East one hundred and five poles with a conditional line to Suiders old line, thence with that line to the beginning, containing fifty acres more or less. And the said James McKee, Sheriff, as aforesaid, after due advertisement according to Law did cause the said piece or parcel of land to be put up at public sale to the highest bidder..."
