EUGENE SANFORD 

SPRUCE PINE - Eugene (Gene) Sanford, 72, died Friday, March 24, 2006 at his 
home. A native of Haywood County, he was the son of Bernice Peebles of Cary and 
the late James Edward Sanford. He was also preceded in death by his stepfather, 
William Peebles; and a stepsister, Jill Parham. He was a U.S. Army veteran and 
a former employee of Tops For Shoes in Asheville. He was a member of West 
Burnsville Baptist Church.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Patricia Dellinger 
Sanford; two daughters, Kim Hughes of Newland, and Regina Johes of Spruce Pine; 
a sister, Elain Whisnant of Cary; a brother, Kenneth Sanford of Lake Wylie, SC; 
a stepsister, Joanne Owens of Candler; a stepbrother, Ross Peebles of Candler; 
and five grandchildren. 

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday at West Burnsville Baptist Church. 
Revs. Ricky Ray, Larry Greene and Dean Honeycutt officiated. Burial was in 
Walnut Grove Cemetery in Avery County. The family received friends from 2 p.m. 
until the service hour at the church. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice 
of Mitchell County, P.O. Box 38, Spruce Pine, NC 28777; Gideons International, 
P.O. Box 264, Burnsville, NC 28714; or West Burnsville Baptist Church 
Benevolence Fund, P.O. Box 38, Burnsville, NC 28714. Holcombe Brothers Funeral 
Home was in charge of arrangements.
