Will of Isaac Pless 1882, Haywood Co., NC In the name of God Amen. I, Isaac Pless of the County of Haywood and State of North Carolina, being of common sound mind and memory and in considering the uncertainty of this frail and transitory life do therefore make, ordain, publish and declare this to be my last will and testament in manner and form following; (to wit) 1st I will all my debts paid if any. 2. I will to my son J.H. Pless, one tract of land known as the Hickory Flat, also one other piece or parcel of land - beginning on the maple corner of the Hickory Flat in the forks of Pisgah Creek, running down the meanders of said creek to M. Burnett's corner near said creek, then with said Burnett's line eastward to the top of the mountain, thence with the old line round to the beginning. And also I will to J.H. Pless a piece of land known as the Pasture Tract or all of said tract that lies South west of a ridge adjoining said J.H. Pless's home tract. And the said J.H. Pless is to pay one hundred dollars to Atheline Poston's heirs and one hundred dollars Polly Burnett's heirs, payment to be made to the above named heirs after the death of myself & my wife's death and the said J.H. Pless is to pay my son Wm P. Pless four hundred dollars for his part in the said land known as the Hickory Flat. 3rd I will to my son Henry Pless all of the tract that of land I now live on together with the mountain tracts that I bought of J.R. Love's heirs to Cogburn's line. Also I will to my son Henry the remainder of the Pasture tract of land not willed above to J.R. Pless. The said Henry Pless is to pay to Asbury Pless's heirs one hundred dollars after the death of myself & wife. The above is all my will provided the said J.H. Pless and Henry take special care of me and my wife Elizabeth Pless during our natural life & see that we lack for nothing we need. 4 I will to Viney Burnett the proceeds of one tract of land known as the Simmons Cove tract during her natural life time. At her death, I will the Simmons tract of land to her bodily heirs. Also one other piece or parcel of land joining the above tract - beginning on the maple corner of the hickory flat tract thence down the meanders of Pisgah Creek____ a dogwood and then with the line of said tract to a ash stump and the said Viney Burnett is to pay fifty dollars to be equally divided among Polly Burnett's heirs - Atheline Poston's heirs and Asbury Pless's heirs payment to be made after the death of myself & wife.
