HAYWOOD COUNTY, NC - WILLS - Mary M. Turner Russell Jones, 6 Jun 1887 ----¤¤¤¤---- Will of Mary M. Turner Russell Jones, Haywood Co., NC. She was a d/o Bannister & Susannah Hefley Turner. 1st. husband was Thomas B. Russell, 2nd., was Burton Jones. Children were Jane C. Malissa Russell[m. John Wesly Robinson], Laura A.C. Russell[ m. James Robinson], and Marion Sevier Russell. In the name of God, Amen. Where as, I, Mary M. Jones feel the importance of arranging all my earthly affairs, So as to be ready in that respect, when the inevitable hour of death comes; and being of sound mind, and feeling perfectly competent to dispose of my property: Now therefore I do hereby will Robina P. Russle, all the property, both real and personal, of which I may be possessed or entitled in any way, at the time of my death. I make this bequest to my said Grand daughter, on account of the affectionate care, with which she has nursed and attended to me during my old age and infirmity, and because I raised her, an orphan from infancy. Norwood Book 2, pg. 291, 9/8/1892 State of North Carolina} Haywood County } In the Superior Court A paper writing purporting to be the Last Will and Testament of Mary M. Jones deceased, is exhibited before me, the undersigned, Clerk of the Superior Court for said County, by Robina P. Cope [formerly Russell] the interested party as devisee therein mentioned, and the due execution thereof by the said Mary M. Jones is proved by the oath and examination of S. L. Underwood and W. L. Norwood the subscribing witnesses thereto: who being duly sworn, doth depose and say, and each for himself deposeth and sayeth that he is a subscribing witness to the paper writing now shown him purporting to be the last will and testament of Mary M. Jones that the said Mary M. Jones in the presence of this depoment, subscribed her name at the end of said paper writing, now shown as aforesaid, and which bears date of the 6th day of June 1887. And the Depoment further saith, That the said Mary M. Jones the testator aforesaid, did, at the time of subscribing her name as aforesaid, declare the said paper writing so subscribed by her and exhibited, to be her Last Will and Testament, and this depoment did thereupon subscribe his name at the end of said Will as an attesting witness thereto, and at the request and in the presence of the said testator. And this depoment further saith, that at the said time when the testator subscribed her name to the said last Will as aforesaid, and at the time of depoment's subscibing his name as an attesting witness thereto, as aforesaid, the said, Mary M. Jones was of sound mind and memory, of full age to execute a will, and was not under any restraint to the knowledge, information or belief of fhis depoment: And further these depoments say not. S.L.
