Submitted by wayne smathers *********************************************** *********************************************** As far as the Ratcliff family; I obtained I copy of Jeremiah Ratcliff Sr.'s Will and is as follows: In the name of God, Amen. I, Jeremiah Ratcliff, Sr. of the County of Haywood in the State of North Carolina, being of sound mind and memory, (blessed be Almighty God for the same) do make and publish this my last will and testament. I give and bequeath to my three children, Jeremiah Newton Ratcliff, Margaret Francis, and Eliza Edwards, all of my Personal property consisting of Notes, etc. to be equally divided between them. I give and bequeath to the heirs of my daughter Polly Evans dec'd. one dollar each in cash to be paid by my Executor. I do nominate and appoint my son Jeremiah N. Ratcliff to be the sole Executor of this my last will and testament, to collect all notes and accounts due me, and divide the proceeds of the same as I have above directed. In making this my last will and testament, I have made a difference in the divide of my personal property between Jeremiah N. Ratcliff, Margaret Francis, Eliza Edwards, and the heirs of my daughter Polly Evans, for the reason following, vig: In deeding my Real Estate to my children, I had given to my daughter Polly Evans more of my said lands, than to either of the other of my said daughters. In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set hand and seal, and publish this to be my last will and testament, in the presence of the witnesses named below. This the twenty seventh day of May, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eighty four. his Witness: Jeremiah X Ratcliff R. L. McCracken mark J. G. Murray
