Hertford County, NC - Annie Cassandra (Cassie) Early, 1860-1937 ~~~~~~~~~~ Annie Cassandra (Cassie) Early, b. 24 Feb 1860 Hertford Co. NC, d. 13 Sept 1937 Hertford Co., was the wife of Thomas Jefferson Teaster Jr. of St. John Township, Hertford County, NC. They were farmers who provided a school at their homeplace for their children & those of neighbors. Cassie & Thomas had seven children: Retha, Minnie Emo, John Cherry, twin sisters Sallie Anne & Parthenia, Eunice & Thomas Jefferson III. Cassie was the daughter of John Robert Early, b. Hertford Co., d. Bertie Co., NC, & Sarah Matilda Dunning Early. John R. Early served as a Confederate trooper as a Captain in the 6th Regiment, 2nd Brigade, NC Militia, & Pvt. in the 59 State Troops (4th NC Cavalry) under Brig. Genl. Beverly Robertson & Major Genl. James Ewell Brown Stuart for three years. Pvt. Early fought in a number of engagements, including Middleburg & Aldie, VA & the Battle of Gettysburg. Cassie is buried in the Teaster family cemetery on the William B. Teaster/Thomas Jefferson Teaster homeplace not far from St. John's crossroads on the Aulander Road. Her parents, John & Sarah are buried in the Dunning family cemetery at the Dunning homeplace on Dunning Road in Aulander.
