The Battle Family Cemetery is located on the Battle/Pittman property 
that runs along the North Carolina/Virginia border in Hertford County, 
Maneys Neck Township. Several years ago, the headstones were removed 
from the grave yard that is located in the back of the field. The head 
stones I found were laid down flat, so the tractor could plow over them.
 
I know that the following ancestors are located on this property:
 
James William Battle  
s/o William and Mary Jane Maget Battle
born:  approx. 1828
died:  some time after 1884 and before 1900
CSA private 2nd regiment N.C. Cavalry 
Did have upright Confederate marker, but it was removed to the woods at 
the back of the field
 
Susan (Sue) Horn   
wife of James William Battle
born: Feb 1847
died: some time between 1911-1912
 
James O'Berry Battle 
s/o James and Sue Horn Battle
born:  Dec 5 1869
died:  Jan 17 1922
 
Samuel A. Battle  
s/o James and Sue Horn Battle
born:  1878
died:  as an infant
 
Mattie L. Battle   
d/o James and Sue Horn Battle  
born:  May 1882
died:  died between 1900-1910
never married
 
Lillie T Battle    
d/o James and Sue Horn Battle    
born:  May 1884
died   Nov 16, 1933
never married
 
James William Battle   
s/o James O'Berry Battle and Lessie Jane Riddick Battle
born:  Dec 13, 1913
died:  July 13, 1826
 
There is a possibility that James William Battle's first wife, 
a Miss Pittman, may be buried there as well. No proof. Lessie 
Jane Riddick Battle may be buried here as well. born: Nov 26, 1887 
she died Jan 6, 1929. I believe she had remarried and her last 
name was King.
