Hertford County, NC - James Maney Cemetery ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ James Maney Cemetery Hertford Co., NC The directions to the James Maney Cemetery at Riddicksville in the Como section of Hertford County are as follows: From Murfreesboro, take US258 North toward the Virginia State line. About 1000 yards south of the Va. state line turn off right on NC county road 1322 and turn right on county rd. 1319 go about a mile to where 1319 makes a sharp right which is where an abandoned NC Forest Service Fire tower is. The old Maney home is off to the right, a large 3-story house with 2 outbuildings. Where 1319 makes the sharp right the private road to the left is the old road to Maney's Ferry. The Maney cemetery is located down that private road on the left in a wooded area. It is very difficult to find and it is on private land that belongs to James Riddick. Mr. Riddick may help people find it but one should call before attempting to locate the cemetery because it is very hard to find and that is a huge block of woods - meaning it is very easy to get lost. There is a photograph of Maney's Cemetery in one of Mr. Stephenson's books titled, "Parker's Ferry" which gives a remarkable history of Parker's Ferry and includes a chapter about the Meherrin Indians who inhabited a village near that area for more that 200 years. __________________________________________________________________ Copyright.
