Hertford County, NC - Town of Winton Amended Act, 1817 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ An Act to amend an act for establishing a town on the lands of Benjamin Wynns on Chowan River WHEREAS by the above recited act of the Commissioners of said town were alone authorized to fill such vacancies as might occur by the death, resignation, or refusal to act of any of their body - and whereas the whole of said commissioners are since dead without having made such appointment as aforesaid. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of North Carolina, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That Joseph F. Dickinson, Leven Duer, Garrison M. Smith, James Copeland, James Rea, John Vann, and William B. Wynns, be, and they are hereby appointed Commissioners for the said town of Winton, and have all powers, privileges and authorities necessary for the regulation and good government of the said town. II. And be it further enacted, That in case of the death, resignation removal out of the county or refusal to act of any of the above named commissioners, a majority of them shall have full power and authority to appoint others to supply their places, who when so appointed shall have all the powers, privileges and authorities as are by this act vested in the original Commissioners.
